What is a "frameout" on a metal building?

A frameout is any opening on a metal building. It can be for a window, door, or garage door, but only the frame for them is made on the building. You are not limited to the standard sizes that we offer for your doors and windows by adding just a frame out. Here is a guide to better understand where frameouts can be placed for doors and windows.

Is your frameout going on the side or the end?

When starting your project the first step would be to define the position that your new building will occupy within your property. It is very important to think about the position of your house, existing buildings driveway, the height and width of your vehicles.

On the End

To personalize your building and give it extra support, we have frameouts on ends that can reach the width and height you need within the measurements of your structure.

If the entry is going on the end we need to know how far from the end the entry is and if there are multiple entries on the same end. They must be a minimum of one foot from the corner and one foot of space between each other.

On the Side

Building an entry on the side is one of the most popular types of entries and customizations for any metal building. Some very important things we need to know are:

Why is a side entry different?

If the space between uprights is not enough for the width of your frame out and you specify a measurement that aligns with one of the uprights or if you decide to install garage doors on the sides of the building, it will be necessary to use header bars to give the necessary support to the structure. These can reach a maximum of 20 'wide.

The highest clearance on a side entry we can make is 18' high on a 20' high building.

What makes knowing this so important?

All header bars are welded and assembled in our workshop with the measurements specified on your confirmation order and cannot be modified at the time of installation as they are custom-built for permanent fitments on your building.

We can build any custom frameout or entry

We have plenty of options to meet any of your needs. Our frameouts on the end or side entry will fit your new metal building perfectly. Customize your building further by adding a 45-degree angle on the corners of the frame. On buildings that are fully enclosed, you could even add your own windows, doors, vents, and or garage doors.

Important Tips To Get It Right The First Time.

It is important to note that with our roll-up garage doors the building will need to have some extra room above the frame of your entry. The door needs room to be mounted and for the door itself to be rolled up above the opening.

In some cases, if the frame out is at the same height as the side of the building the space needed for the garage door to be mounted will not be sufficient. Consider the possibility of adding a garage door in the future when adding a frameout to your custom building. Also include the space from the corner of the building as well as the top. As this will accommodate the space needed to roll up the garage door when open.
